OBSTETRIC ULTRASOUND
Obstetric ultrasound is the use of high frequency ultrasound transducers that are in real time (actual movements can be seen) used in pregnancy evaluation. This may be performed transvaginally or transabdominally, depending on the weeks of age of gestation.
Obstetric ultrasound is already an indispensable diagnostic tool in pregnancy monitoring. It is safe, highly effective, non-invasive and accurate in diagnosing pregnancy.
Why a need for ultrasound in pregnancy?
1. Diagnosis and confirmation of early pregnancy
2. Vaginal bleeding in early pregnancy
3. Determination of gestational age and assessment of fetal size
4. Diagnosis of fetal malformation
5. Placental localization
6. Determination of multiple pregnancies
7. Determination of amniotic fluid

1ST TRIMESTER SCAN
First trimester ultrasound is important given its ability to confirm the pregnancy location, assess viability and number of embryo(s) and accurately date a pregnancy, all of which are critical for the course of pregnancy.

2ND and 3RD TRIMESTER SCAN/FETAL BIOMETRY/ TRANSABDIMINAL SCAN/PELVIC ULTRASOUND
The main objective of the 2nd trimester ultrasound examination is to accurately date the pregnancy, evaluate fetal anatomy and assess placental location and adnexa.
While 3rd trimester obstetric ultrasound examination is performed to provide accurate diagnostic information in order to optimize antenatal care and improve outcome for the mother and fetus. It is focused on fetal growth, placenta location and amniotic fluid volume.

CONGENITAL ANOMALY SCAN (CAS)
Ultrasound is an invaluable tool in screening for fetal anomalies. Routine screening for fetal anomalies can lower perinatal mortality. This procedure is best performed during 20 – 24 weeks of pregnancy.

BIOPHYSICAL PROFILE SCORING (BPS)
The Biophysical profile Scoring (BPS) is a non-invasive test that combines data from 2 sources, ultrasound imaging and fetal heart rate. BPS predicts the presence or absence of fetal asphyxia and the risk of death during the antenatal period. It is composed of 5 parameters: Fetal Breathing, Fetal Movement, Fetal Tone, Fetal heart rate reactivity and amniotic fluid volume.

OB DOPPLER
Doppler ultrasound technology offers a unique, non-invasive opportunity to extend our ability to investigate the fetal hemodynamic state. This tool is used to externally investigate on the fetal, feto-placental and utero-placental circulation.

PLACENTAL DOPPLER
Ultrasound aids in the diagnosis of placental invasion in the uterus.
